The World Premiere season of Dream Lover – The Bobby Darin Musical at the Sydney Lyric Theatre has only three weeks remaining. After standing ovations at every performance, the acclaimed production must close on Sunday 27 November.
Audiences and media have praised this wonderful production. The Sunday Telegraph said, “Turning in a phenomenal performance, Campbell is the charismatic heart and anchor of Dream Lover … Brian Thomson’s glittery black set, studded with arching lights, puts the superb 18-piece big band on stage. Tim Chappel’s wonderful costumes capture the period, as does Andrew Hallsworth’s snappy, inventive choreography. Simon Phillips’ slick direction keeps things moving seamlessly and he is well served by a terrific cast.” Broadwayworld.com said, “Australia…can rival anything Broadway or the West End can produce” and The Australian raved about “a thrilling 18-piece band”.
“It’s so gratifying to see the audience response to Dream Lover,” said producer John Frost. “With standing ovations at every performance and five star reviews by audience members on social media, Dream Lover has proved to be the hit I hoped it would be. Simon Phillips has created a production that we’re extremely proud of, and David Campbell’s extraordinary performance as Bobby Darin has been acclaimed by everyone. Thank you Sydney for taking Dream Lover to your heart.”
NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said, “This remarkable new Australian production has been delighting audiences as it shares the life story and songbook of Bobby Darin. I’m very proud of the role the NSW Government has played in securing this production and bringing it to fruition. Sydney is the only place you can see Dream Lover and with just three weeks left I encourage everyone to book their tickets and to come to Sydney for an evening of fantastic entertainment.”
