With a sensational all-star cast already secured, Dream Lover – The Bobby Darin Musical today added to its impressive billing, announcing Australian Charity of the Year 2016, Cure Brain Cancer Foundation as the show’s official charity partner.
Cure Brain Cancer has a strong personal connection to the production. The show’s producer John Frost was a close friend of radio legend Stan Zemanek who died from brain cancer in 2007, and Frost cites Stan’s love of Bobby Darin’s music as an inspiration behind the musical.
Stan’s wife Marcella Zemanek who is an ambassador for Cure Brain Cancer said, “Stan would be so thrilled to see this show finally come into production, he absolutely adored Bobby Darin’s music.
“Stan used to jokingly call John ‘Frosty the Showman’, and Frosty has really done it again with this one. I can’t wait to see it for myself and the fact that the show will also be helping to raise money for Cure Brain Cancer is just amazing.”
Dream Lover will feature some of the biggest hits from the 50s and 60s that were made famous by global heart throb Bobby Darin, including Mack the Knife, Beyond The Sea, Splish Splash and the title track, Dream Lover.
The show reveals the legendary singer, songwriter and actor’s extraordinary life, who – together with his move star wife Sandra Dee – provided the sound track to a generation. TV presenter and performer David Campbell will play the lead role, supported by a stunning cast including Caroline O‘Connor, Hannah Fredericksen, Bert LaBonte, Martin Crewes and Marney McQueen.
The musical captures the glamour and passion of the big band era, the Rat Pack in Vegas and the Golden Age of Hollywood, a time of trail-blazing stars, knock-out fashions and life changing events. Featuring a sensational cast and an 18-piece band, Dream Lover – The Bobby Darin Musical is a big show with a big score and a big heart.
Dream Lover Producer John Frost said, “When we decided to partner with a charity for our show, there really was only one option. Cure Brain Cancer is close to my heart and with my connection to Marcella and Stan, and I couldn’t dream of a better cause for our production to support. Stan was the inspiration for this show, so it’s fitting that we can support them.”
Cure Brain Cancer will be selling 50 Premium Seats with a VIP experience, with all proceeds going directly to the foundation. Bucket collections will take place at each of the four weekend shows of 21- 23 October for punters who wish to attend the show and support the foundation.
